To receive your immigration medical exam, you must have all of the required vaccinations. The Immigration and Nationality Act expressly requires some vaccinations. Others are required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These vaccines are performed in the interest of public health.

The medical examination will also include a chest x-ray and blood tests for syphilis. Children who are younger than 15 do not have to undergo the chest x-ray or blood tests, but they do need to have a general physical examination and immunizations.

When taking your medical history, the civil surgeon will need to know about some specific conditions.

The medical immigration examination is administered to foreign nationals and is designed to protect the health of the US population. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) uses one’s medical examination and vaccination report to determine if they meet the health-related requirements for admissibility.
